A short series on Seoul, South Korea, during our transfer day back home from Australia in May. This sculpture in front of the National Folk Museum of Korea, on the grounds of the Gyeongbok Palace in Seoul, South Korea, reminded me of folk art here in America. I wonder if folk art is similar the world over? [Today I'm in Atlanta.]

Great take Ginnie.
Ginnie: Thank you much, kind sir!
I like this one.
Ginnie: And you're a sweetheart, Atunbi! Thank you.
It is a beautiful work of Art.
So is your picture, Ginnie.
Ginnie: I guess it's universal, Ray! Thank you kindly.
Cute title
Ginnie: I have always been a fan of folk art, Sherri. It feels so...unsophisticated. So "raw" and basic. Thank you.
So simple looks like drift wood.
Ginnie: You are so right, Vintage. Good eyes to see that! Thanks.
'Let thou lead by the wind'. Ontzettend mooie foto, folk art is so beautiful, yes I think that folk art is similar all over the world, it are the basic shapes of how 'we' see the beauty of things around us.
Love the angle, love the proud 'body language' of the bird on the left......'wait for the right wind and go west my friend..' Leuke titel trouwens, meer dan je weet.
Ginnie: "Wait for the right wind and go west my friend." I really like that, lieve Astrid. That sounds like something I would say.
very cool looking shot!
Ginnie: Awwww. Thank you, Kanyi.
That's rather simple but nice Ginnie!
Ginnie: I think it's indeed the simplicity of folk art that gives it its beauty and intrigue, Chris. It's like getting down to the raw, uncluttered basics! Thanks.
Agree with Chris simple and nice well spotted.
Ginnie: As I told Chris, Scotia, I think it's indeed the simplicity of folk art that gives it its beauty and intrigue. It's like getting down to the raw, uncluttered basics! Thanks.
Wonderful, Ginnie.
It's the simplicity of this photograph which works so well for me.
Ginnie: Exactly, Paul! As I've been saying, I think it's indeed the simplicity of folk art that gives it its beauty and intrigue. It's like getting down to the raw, uncluttered basics! Thanks.
Well spotted Ginnie THREE stunning looking birds!!! Remind you of anybody??
I think this kind of art is used all over the world. Great composition
Ginnie: HA! The Three Musketeers. I never once thought of that till you mentioned it.
Fun geese and they don't make a mess everywhere.
Ginnie: Precisely, Aussie.
I like the tone and the simple composition
Ginnie: Thank you much, kind sir.
I suspect it probably is. Nice picture Ginnie.
Ginnie: I think you're right, Bill.
All over the world the geese are very beloved birds, in Korea they are believed to deliver good things, flying wild geese mean best luck (http://english.gangnam.go.kr/koreanpattern/animals.htm- it is your second goose- pic from Korea, and in my imagination they should now fly away to bring best luck to all...!
I self combine 'wild geese' with my most beloved childbook " The wonderful adventures of Nils Holgersson with the wild geese" by the Swedish autthor Selma Lagerlöf! I think that every child might know this wonderful book!
Ginnie: Once again, dear Philine, I am learning from you! I am NOT familiar with the Selma Lagerlöf book but want to know all about it now, thanks to you!
Simple and well spotted. different atmospher!
Ginnie: Yes, Arash, it is so different from what we had just seen moments before in the temple! The difference between night and day! Thanks.
What is this Ginnie? Commpass? i like detail foto. Greetings from Yogyakarta Indonesia.
Ginnie: Good question, Bram! It may just have been a post with the art up on high. I don't know. But I like the idea of it's being a compass of sorts, pointing North, perhaps.
Agreat image, makes me want to get up and go somewhere, on a mission!
Ginnie: HA! Just go, Padraig! And thanks for stopping by and commenting.
These certainly are very rustic looking sculptures and they do have a very similar look to other folk art I have seen.
Ingrid
Ginnie: I guess it's universal in the very raw, basic and unsophisticated sense. Thanks, Ingrid.
very good composition
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Chantal.
LoL, what ever Geese they maybe this was a great capture. You really brought out the details and made sure it was of wood!
Ginnie: Wood it was, dear Brian! Thanks for your kind comment.
I think it's favulous - quite weather vane like isn't it?
Ginnie: Yes, Mary, it is! I like that thought. Thanks.
Maybe is this kind of art that kept the traces of our roots and in which the bounds of so many different cultures remain...
Ginnie: You are certainly right, Lina. It makes sense to me! Thanks.
Interesting sculpture. They look like weathervanes. I like the simple craftsmanship.
Ginnie: As I have said to others, Marcie, I think it's indeed the simplicity of folk art that gives it its beauty and intrigue. It's like getting down to the raw, uncluttered basics! Thanks.
Good turned, Ginnie! I like because in spite of the contrast details in the wood are appraised!
Ginnie: I am such a lover of wood, José-Angel, so art like this is very significant to me. Thank you kindly.
When you look at this one with almost closed eyes it is a wonderfully abstract composition.
Ginnie: I just went back to do that, Wim, and I think you're right.
Very nice toning Ginnie .. and i'm curios .. you know what i mean ;-)
Ginnie: I am curious, too, Klaus, and I guess that's what always helps in learning each other's culture! Thank you.
I really like this naive piece of art Ginnie. You captured it very well!
Ginnie: Thanks a million, Richard!
Again this most unusual sort of sculpture stands out well against the sky Ginnie but still retains plenty of detail.
Ginnie: Because I had to contend with the smog, Brian, I was glad I could make it work. Thank you.
Interesting art and a nice detail shot.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Carsten.
Looks like something you might see in Baveria. A little like a weather vain or whatever you call those things that tell you the wind direction. nice work.
Ginnie: Weather vane is correct, Mick, and I think you're right. It was quite a surprise to find it there in Seoul! Thank you.
Just a lovely play on words.
Ginnie: I knew you of all people would appreciate it, Jen.
LOL at the geese! I think tomorrow may be your birthday. Have a happy one!
Ginnie: I think you may be right, Martin, but how in the world did you know that??!!
They make a great picture.
Ginnie: Awwww. Thanks, Louis.
That is a very beautiful sculpture - and to your question - I think there are many similarities....though, I'm not an expert...
Ginnie: Thank you, Aksel, and I think you're right.
