My Pride and Joy
My grandson, Nicholas (7), loves baseball and has had chances this season to play the catcher's position.
America's favorite pasttime starts very young, you know! He is with us for the next several days because his mommy, my daughter, is getting married in Hawaii on Sunday. We leave on Wednesday to be with her and fiancé! [Today I'm in Atlanta.]

you must be a proud grandmum, Ginnie
i hope we will see pics of the grand wedding soon after. and oh, back blogging now.
Ginnie: Very proud indeed, ChiChi. He's my only grandchild, so he's thoroughly spoiled by me! I could eat him up!
Fabulous, Ginnie.
I didn't realise catchers wore so much protective gear...its a wonder he can catch when so heavily armoured.
Ginnie: HA! He actually wasn't doing a thing except sitting there in this pre-season game, Ray. But he eventually learned how to stop the ball.
With the name on his helment he will be a star.
Ginnie: I can't picture him being a catcher for long, Vintage, because he really doesn't have the body build. BUT he does love baseball and "gets" it. I can see him playing this sport for a long time. Thanks.
Reminds me of a movie my siblings and I used to watch over and over again..the Sandlot. Love the toning Ginnie
Ginnie: That was a great movie, Etomi. I love watching these little kids get into sports. It's part of learning how to "play" in life!
That is a precious shot. One to dig out in a few years for his girlfriends.
Ginnie: Yes, Michael. I'm sure you're right.
Hi Ginnie! nice shot of the little guy. have a great time in Hawai'i! You remember, I got married on Kauai'i...we had such a great time!
Ginnie: Your little fella will be this age before you know it, Alex! It IS hard to believe it's been a year since your own wedding in Hawaii. I'll send you good thoughts while we're there.
You are a proud G'ma, I know you are and this big catcher once will be the hero of the match....this is a sharp picture of him and do you know what.......by just looking at him I know he knows what to do, I used to be a catcher for many years.
Love the tones and your POV. I think you should let him read al the comments when he is with you, greetings from Zelda
Ginnie: You have seen Nicholas and me in action, lieve Astrid, so you know that I could just eat him up! I think about all the things you could teach him about being a catcher. Well, maybe one day you will. In the meantime, I'll have him read the comments. He'll get a kick outta them, for sure. Ontzettend bedankt.
il a l'air bien petit lui. mais, si ça se trouve, il est meilleurs que les adultes!
Ginnie: Little kids in adult-like bodies! I know, O-P. It makes you look twice.
First I thought a little 'being'/E.T. from an other planet/"Stern", but h e is y o u r star and "proud and joy" here on our earth and h e is a star in his catchers' position, he may be very lucky about this star-photo! Good wishes for all your familiy, then I guess we will see the next wedding- photo!
Ginnie: We grandmas get to pop all our buttons, Philine! It's our special heaven on earth.
CongratulationsGinnie. He looks awesome with his gear on. Hope your daughters wedding is wonderful. Good luck to her. :o) John
Ginnie: He is awesome to me, John, of course.
A proud grandmother made a superb shot of her grandson. I really like the pose and the tones Ginnie!
Ginnie: Awww. Thank you, dear Richard. This g'ma is very proud indeed!
Great shot of this strange game
Ginnie: I know it must look strange to you, Bill, but this is the American pasttime, as you know by now. It's ingrained into our collective subconscious!
Is there someone in all of that clothing? I am sure there is? He looks very focussed on the game.
I love the colour (or lack thereof). It could be a recent photo, or one from days gone by - I love that!
Ginnie: He's in there, Brian, but at that point in the season, I'm not sure he could see out of the mask! HA! He says it's his favorite position now. And yes, I did want to give it a timeless feeling, so thanks for noticing.
ginniehartelijke groeten. I wish you well and hope the ceremony is a fun occasion.
Ginnie: Ohhhh, I like that, Chad. How creative: ginniehartelijke groeten. I'll have to remember that. You just made my day!
Nice shot Ginnie - he looks completely focused on the job in hand. Have a great time at the wedding.
Ingrid
Ginnie: I think he's focused on trying to figure out the uniform, Ingrid! HA! That particular game he was just sitting there. Later on in the season he started "getting" it.
great shot, great moment to capture
Ginnie: Thanks, Chantal. G'mas get to be proud, you know.
No sacrifice on your part, I'm sure. I remember all the baseball games of the past for my oldest son with great fondness.
Ginnie: No sacrifice whatsoever, Mary! I could eat him up. Yes, you know the feeling (though it may be a bit different between g'son and son?).
Nice pose, I like tones and the moment you catch. have a good trip and wedding party
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Arash. This will be a memorable week for us all.
Lovely capture, like the sepia.
Looking forward to the wedding pics.
Ginnie: Thanks a million, Aussie. There's always something to look forward to, it seems, even while living in the moment.
Great photo. Nick is almost falling over because of the bigness of the helmet.
Ginnie: Yes, Wim, he is.
oh wow ginnie. thay's a fantastic catch !
Ginnie: Well, what can a g'ma say! I just pop all my buttons whenever I see him play like this.
Hawaii eh Ginnie - sounds idyllic!
Ginnie: It will be, I'm sure, Chris. We have been to the very spot where they will get married, so it's something to look forward to even more. Thanks.
this is a great shot of your grandson!
Ginnie: You're a sweetheart, Onada. Thank you. I pop all my buttons over him.
Catcher! Tough spot. Matthew played it at that age and has since moved on to First Baseman. Ginnie, this is a superb shot. It deserves printing, matting, and framing.
Ginnie: I don't think Nicholas will play that spot for long since he doesn't have the body build for it, IMHO. But it sure was fun to see him all suited up.
Great picture of your Grandson Ginnie, one for the family album. Enjoy your next holiday break.
Ginnie: Thanks, Brian. He sure is a delight to me.
He will be a big one ... ;-) - The situation and the emotions from a grandma - this mixture is not to beat!!!!!! Ginnie, realy, this is a so wunderfull capture i love it! Have a nice time on Hawaii.
Ginnie: You always know how to make my day, Klaus! Thank you.
Great image. Every little boy's dream!!!
Love how you've processed it. Timeless.
Ginnie: Thanks, Marcie. I wonder how long he'll dream the dream?!
Priceless Ginnie, this is a great shot of Nicholas and one i'm sure you will treasure.
Love the tones.
Ginnie: Thank you, mijn vriend. I could just eat him up!
Too cute for words, and an excellent candid!
Ginnie: You always make my day, Alex! Thank you.
Ginnie! I want to see his face! I am imagining how cute he must be! Congrats all around, on having him and of course on the wedding! Take great pics in Hawaii!
Ginnie: Maybe one day I'll show you his face, Yinks!
Wonderful portrait of a great player!
A fine choice of tones for this nice scene.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Still. It was so fun to take his picture.
That good it seems to me this photo, Ginnie. Your grandson is in a very likeable position but simultaneously concentrate is appraised to him very! Bravo! Ahhh and congratulations by the wedding! (again traveling, ehh. you never are stopped
Ginnie: We never stop traveling, José-Angel, you are so right. This trip to Hawaii is one of the biggest of them all...in meaning! Thanks.
This is a great shot Ginnie, he's so tiny ! Have fun at the wedding and don't forget to take your camera !
Ginnie: HA! The camera is a permanent attachment by now, Johnny!
What a superb precious shot to have of your family simply wonderful.
Ginnie: I was just delighted, Scotia, as you'd imagine!
Congratulations, on your grandson and daughter. You are very blessed and fortunate indeed. Great picture and hope the best for you and your family.
Ginnie: Thanks a million, John. It's a happy time for us all as we anticipate the joyous celebration!
He's really got the gear down, doesn't he? And the squat looks pretty natural. Does he complain about sore knees afterwards?
It's so cool how you chronicle his comings and goings here.
Ginnie: In this shot, Ruth, early season, he couldn't even see through the mask. It was a riot. But eventually he figured it out and even started catching the pitches thrown. Just wait till you have your own grandkids.
Never have understood baseball or basketball or football, but still I do know a good image when I see one
Ginnie: Awwww. You know how to make my day, Deji (but I'm sorry I'm late to tell you so!).
OK, if you say that is Nicholas I will believe you as you are not wont to lying. Heh, that helmet is a little oversized.
Great picture and composition.
Ginnie: Everything seemed oversized on him, Louis. Everything!
Your "pride and joy" looks very much like a pro
Hope you'll have a wonderful time in Hawaii!!
Ginnie: You know how I work, Lina. It's the best gift I can give him: memories. Thank you.
The title: Sports Illustrated; The Peeweeleague!
And this is the front cover. You caught a nice moment there Ginnie. Have fun in hawaii, the place is dream of every day. Can't wait to see those pics.
Ginnie: You are such a sweetheart, Fausto. Thank you. The Hawaii pics are coming up.
I guess this will be a great pic for him to look at in some years
Nicholas...he is brilliant catcher...yeah...Move on Nicho. Its good BW foto with DOF is perfect. I love it.
Regards From yogyakarta Indonesia.
Ginnie: HA! I just adore him, Bram, but grandmas get to be prejudiced.
