Pomp and Circumstance
A short series on Seoul, South Korea, during our transfer day back home from Australia in May.
In the courtyard of the Gyeongbok Palace. I just wish I knew what everything meant! (especially the colors) [Today I'm in Atlanta.]

Beautiful bright colors and ornate artistry. I like your framing, as well.
Ginnie: You are a sweetheart, Red Pen. Thank you.
Indeed, you captured the lovely vivids colour in what must have been an akward shot. Well done.
Ginnie: It was a bit awkward, Alex, but in the end it worked, I thought, because I wanted to capture it against the sky. The background was too busy otherwise. Thank you kindly.
Those colors are popping Ginnie..very nice
Ginnie: The colors definitely were popping, Dotun. Thank you!
So beautiful with play diagonal. Greeting from Yogyakarta Indonesia.
Ginnie: The diagonal allowed me to get the ceremonial piece (drum?) against the sky, Bram. Thanks.
Definitely looks like my painting, Ginnie. Weird.
Ginnie: I can just see you painting this, Mary, or applying it somehow to a stained-glass piece of art. Thanks.
Certainly great colours Ginnie, excellent saturation. I am a little unsure of the composition of an obviously difficult shot to get, for me, the stonework is a little distracting, which I am sure you would have done something about if you had been able to. Kind regards, Neil.
Ginnie: The stonework ended up being the least of all evils for me, Neil, in order to get this ceremonial drum (?) against the sky instead of against the busy background. You're right--sometimes your choices are limited. Thanks.
Why Ginnie, this shot is such a treat, with all that color... I can see you enjoyed the stop over...
One word, actually 3 HAWAII HAWAII HAWAII hehehe
Ginnie: HA! You are so subtle, Yinks.
Beautiful, Ginnie!
It means whatever you want it to mean. Buddhist temples...from Korea to SriLanka...are characterised by a riot of colourful symbols...contained in the art are morality tales, cautionary tales, Epic Journey tales, celebrations of life in all its forms, inter-connectedness of all things, etc...from this kaleidiscope everyone can pick out the bits that have relevance for them. I love the art of Buddhist temples, and your current series suggest you do too.
Ginnie: I like your take on this, Ray. I'm sure it DOES mean whatever we want it to mean. I always appreciate your comments about this side of the world. Thanks.
agree with everyone here. great angle, and i'm amazed that your camera captures colors so vividly!
Ginnie: I'm very pleased with the Canon "red ring" lenses, Alex. Couldn't ask for anything better, IMHO. Thank you kindly.
Such happy colors against a lovely blue sky
Ginnie: Thank you, dear Sherri. I had to get this against the sky because the background was way too busy otherwise.
I love the bird Ginnie. This is a beautiful "weather vane"!
Ginnie: I loved it, too, Kay, but never once thought of it like a weather vane. I like that! Thanks.
I would not mind being that bird and have a lookout onto all the bright colours and the nice shapes that is found all around in the Palace, those delighted shaped dragon heads does make this composition perfect, they did a great job on the nice paintings, but than I think it much be a prevelidge to work in that magnificent place.
Ontzettend mooie foto, prachtige kleuren, edk.
Ginnie: You ARE that bird, Astrid, knowing you! Always on the look-out. Always looking for that special opportunity for another photo op. Ontzettend bedankt.
Oh my, there is that etraordinary clarity again! Very nice.
Ginnie: It was a very clear day, John. We were in heaven.
Great colours! Looks like a big drum.
Ginnie: Yes, Wim, a ceremonial drum that does NOT look like it was all banged up like the one earlier in this series (last Thursday). Thanks.
Vibrantly vibrant
Ginnie: I like that, Nigel.
I am stunned by the technicolour glory of this thing.
Ginnie: I was, too, Chad. I'm not used to that much color all at once in the same place, to be honest!
Vivid isn't the word Ginnie
Ginnie: I know what you mean, Chris.
Yes, wonderful colours and fine artisam work, for us an "Augenschmaus", for the poeple in Korea surely full of history and deeper symbolism!
Ginnie: Knowing you, Philine, you could and would get all the deeper symbolism! If I lived in the area, I would definitely look into it myself. Thanks.
Imagine how long these piece's took to make and the craftsmenship that went into them. The colours are stunning, the sun must not fade them or I wonder if they repaint every now and again.
Lovely shot Ginnie.
Ginnie: I know, Tracy. We Musketeers are always looking at how things work and how they're made. The important things in life.
your passport must be worn out
brilliant image
Ginnie: My old passport was, DrAW, and when I had to get a new one last year, I made sure it had additional pages at the get-go.
very nice shot
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Saeed.
This is fabulous, photo great colours and I join you in asking what dose it all mean
Ginnie: Ray seems to think it means anything we want it to mean, Vintage, but I'm guessing it does mean more than that! Thanks.
The colours are stunning Ginnie, and the frame is rather nice too!
Ginnie: So glad you like it, Bill...you, the maker of frames.
Is that a private carrier with a secret throne inside? The color and detail are marvelous.
Ginnie: I think this is a ceremonial drum similar to the one used for the changing of the guard, Ruth, but it looked like this one was never "drummed," or maybe just rarely. I was enthralled by it. Thanks.
perfect angle and composition. The colors are vivid too
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Chantal.
Nice Process
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Hmzainul, for stopping by and commenting.
Clear colors, nice capture Ginnie
Ginnie: Thanks a million, Klaus.
Nicely framed, and such vivid colours. Excellent
Ginnie: Thank you, kind sir!
The colours are so vibrant Ginnie. I like your framing!
Ginnie: You're a sweetheart, Richard. Thank you.
lucky you to be able to travel so much and take such great photographs! The colors are so bright. Beautiful.
Ginnie: Thank you so very much, Coralie, for stopping by and commenting. Welcome to SC!
This stands ou so much well captured. Looks a bit like a painting. The colours are amazing well done.
Ginnie: This was one of those things begging to be captured, Scotia. I don't usually ever see so many colors together in one place at the same time.
Very colourful, Ginnie. I'm sure everything does have a significance.
Ingrid
Ginnie: I'm sure, too, Ingrid. Thank you!
I'm loving the colours, Ginnie! Was about to ask you what it means and then saw your comment
Ginnie: Yup! It certainly makes you wonder.
une très belle prise de vue, le sujet est très bien saisi, félicitations !
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Ceanothe, for stopping by and commenting!
Good follow up to yesterday Ginnie, I like the way it stands out so colourfully against the sky.
Ginnie: I had to take it against the sky, Brian, so as not to be distracted by the background. So glad you like it. Thanks.
I fodder that here, the cornice of the building does not let appreciate beautiful the colorful one of the attention center. Perhaps you must have looked for another frame. What you think?
Ginnie: You and Neil are on the same page, José Angel, and I understand where you're coming from. But I made the decision for this POV based on the sky vs. the cluttered background. I bet I could have done a better job at including the entire center of the drum, however. I wish I had seen that while I was taking the picture. Thanks!
The colors are so vibrant and the sharpness of the shot make it feel like real.
Ginnie: You are such a sweetheart!!!
So you wre thinking of Elgar at he time
Ginnie: I wish I "got it," Louis, but I must be very dense this time, because I haven't a clue.
