South Korea
We're back from my daughter's wedding in Hawaii!
On our way back from Australia in May, we had a transfer-day to kill in Seoul, South Korea. We decided to visit the King's Palace, Gyeongbokgung, from where this short series comes. This is the drum head of the ceremonial drum that signaled the changing of the guard. [Today I'm in Atlanta.]

Welcome back, Ginnie. I love the colors in this image.
Ginnie: Thank you, Red Pen. It's always good to be back.
Love the cracks in the skin from use.
Ginnie: I love the cracks, too, Mary. Thanks for noticing them.
A symbol that could tell much about the harmonisation in the life.
Greetings from Yogyakarta Indonesia.
Ginnie: I agree, Bram. I thought it was a good way to start a short series on South Korea. Thanks.
Welcome back, thanks for the link, changing the guard will be quite a ceremony to attend, this picture showes the long time they hold on to traditions.
You have eye for detail, but than I think it is hard to overlook a drum 3 times your size...(make that 4) Geweldig dat je er weer bent
Ginnie: Graag gedaan, mijn vriend. It's good to be back! 12 hours' difference from AMS was very weird. When I got up, you were going to bed, and vice versa. Well, sort of. You know what I mean, Anyway, you've seen a photo of this drum and know how big it is. I think both of us could crawl inside of it and still have room to spare. HA! Thanks.
WELCOME BACK! I can't wait to hear about your daughter's wedding, and to see pictures. I'm sure all was lovely in HI.
This picture is striking. It's a work of art. And I love the framing you created for it - very nice. You are getting quite good at this stuff!
Ginnie: I am eager to show pictures of the wedding, Kay, but have to get clearance from my daughter of the actual wedding. Others of Hawaii I will show in time, of course.
Thank you, as always, for your kind comment! You always make me smile.
Very interesting Ginnie
Ginnie: It was, Chris.
Welcome at your first home!
This pic looks like an abstract-modern painting or a symbol of harmony or vanity because of the fading different colours- a very beautiful detail you have detected with your eyes and your camera!
Ginnie: Thank you, dear Philine, for your welcome back. And as always, you are so kind met jouw woorden. Ontzettend bedankt.
Nice one Ginnie. The texture and the faded colors gives a great visual.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Sarthak. It was so subtle to me, which is why I liked it. It felt like an "aged" Korea with all its history.
Looks like it needs a coat of paint! Nice to have you back
Ginnie: I actually wondered if they ever repaint it, Bill?! It's good to be back. Thanks.
A well beaten drum,good colour
Ginnie: It did make me wonder how many years of use it has lived through! Thanks, Vintage.
As well as what others have said I also like the smudges of paint where it has been beaten.
Ginnie: I like that, too, Nigel. It's like the paint has bled through the skin! Thanks.
Looks rather like colourful piece of wall art. Lovely colours and textures. Welcome back.
Ingrid
Ginnie: Thanks for the welcome back, Ingrid. This was very much like a piece of art for me. It feels like it holds a lot of history!
How did the wedding go? Did you take pics?
Ginnie: The wedding was fabulous, Kanyi, and yes, I took lots of pictures. I still have to work on them and get "clearance" on them from my daughter before I show them. You know how that is! But thanks for asking.
Lovely abstact with such nice colours. Welcome back.
Ginnie: Thanks a million, Aussie. It's good to be back.
You're back!!
What about the wedding? It must have been lovely! (Loved the subtile marks of time on the drum...)
Ginnie: Yes, Lina, I'm back! The wedding was definitely lovely in every way but I will need "clearance" from my daughter before I can show any of the pictures. There are privacy issues to deal with, of course. BUT I DO have pictures of Hawaii that I will eventually show. The travel is happening too quickly. I still am not finished with Australia. HA!
This drum was definitely "subtle. Thanks, as always, for your comment.
You are quite the world traveler
Ginnie: No dust settles around us, for sure, Chantal.
Such fine detialing, showing the wear and tear of regular usage.
A wonderful photograph that, yes, could be an art work
Ginnie: This drum head reminded me of ME, Paul, "showing the wear and tear of regular usage." HA! I like that.
Brilliant picture, Ginnie.
Really dig the rainbows at the top, presumably caused by paint transferring from the sticks to the skin when the drum is struck. Great to see you back.
Ginnie: It's good to be back, Ray. And your "theory" makes sense to me.
Great photograph, Ginnie. This is wear and tear at its best.
Ginnie: Now if only WE could wear and tear like that! Thanks, Chad.
Nice to see you back safe and sound Musketeer...
Looks like this drum sure has had alot of beating.. Nice detail and composition. The link was very informative. Hope all went well with the wedding Ginnie. Still "out and about"
Ginnie: Out and about! Hmmmm. Do I need to go find you and check in on you, Travy???
I AM back safe-n-sound, trying to catch up on all my pictures!
I like faded colors of an old symbol in a nice texture.
Ginnie: I do, too, Arash! Thank you.
This makes a delightful abstract Ginnie, presumably at one time it was a complete painted design.
Ginnie: I think you're right about what it used to be, Brian. It looks like there has been a lot of changing of the guard!
Welcome back from the happy event! Such a colorful texture filled image to return with.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Sherri. And now I have a face with your name!
This makes a very nice abstract with these colourful shapes. Welcome back Ginnie. I trust everything went well with the wedding.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Richard. The big event was wonderful in every way. Now I need to start in on the pictures.
Amazingly beautiful, goes straight to my heart. One of my favorites, ever.
Ginnie: Awwww. Isn't it funny what things grab us, Ruth. It always amazes and surprises me. Thank you.
Hi Ginnie,
Let me tell you how much I'm sorry to have been less present these 2 last months (a lot of work, some health disorders - not too serious, don't worry)... and of course, as I have had let time to shoot, less images to post... I've also decided to change my photo blog (you've found me !)
Ginnie: I did find you, Flo, but I'm not sure how. I wish you had linked yourself! I don't want to lose contact with you. Thank you.
Wow, a wonderful (remains) of an image.
Great find!
Ginnie: I loved seeing it, Wim. It clearly has history stamped all over it. Thanks.
Seems like I'm always saying welcome back, you are quite the traveler or should I say travel photographer. Actually, we're all very lucky because your pictures take us to places most of have never been before. Beautiful image as usual, thanks for sharing these lovely pictures.
Ginnie: You are so kind and you're welcome, John. It's totally my pleasure. I love having a place to show what I have been so fortunate to see. One day I will stop traveling, I'm sure. Till then, I do want to see everything I can see...and have new eyes because of it! Thank you kindly.
This is a very elegant sign!
I wait for your series Ginnie.
Ginnie: I hope you enjoy the series as much as I have, Still. Thank you.
Welcome back from Hawaii. I hope you are not feeling too jet-lagged. I like the way you've chosen to present this image, like an abstract painting rather than the object itself.
Ginnie: I'm not sure why I did it this way, Karen, but I'm very glad you like it. It was very soulful to me. Thank you.
I'm sure that symbol is meant to mean something, but I can't remember what it is.
Ginnie: It reminds me of their flag, Ellie, or the yin-yang symbol??
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_South_Korea
In my eyes this represents the balance I find in your pictures.
Ginnie: You sure know how to make my day, Fausto. Seriously.
Excellent artistic picture - the kind which you shouldn't add an explanation and let everyone's imagination run wild.
Ginnie: HA! If only I had thought of that, Louis.
Beautiful colours and shapes....to me it's like a painting...and maybe it is...painted on the skin...
Ginnie: Yes, Aksel, a skin painting.
