Sydney's QVB
The British influence is all over Australia, not that it surprised me!
This Queen Victoria Building in Sydney reminded me of Covent Garden in London. [Today I'm in Amsterdam.]

I have actually been in here - it's impressive isn't it! Couldn't afford to but anything mind you!
Ginnie: We didn't buy a thing there, Mike! But it was fun to walk through from one end to the other, just to say we did it.
Patterns and geometry galore. This is an image I could spend quite a lot of time with, soaking up all the details.
Ginnie: LOTS of details for sure, Red Pen. If you're a shopper (I'm not but Donica is), you would have had a heyday!
A definite "Wow factor". Such an amazing structure. I can't believe they didn't stop you from taking pictures.
Ginnie: I didn't see anyone else taking pictures, now that you say that, Sherri, but no one tried to stop me either. I never once thought of that.
I am not a Sydney person, Ginnie, but I have been to this building, albeit without a camera.
Your image shows off the inside of the building perfectly...impressive, but not my kind of place to shop.
Ginnie: Since I'm not a shopper (Donica is!), this isn't my place to shop either, Ray. But it was fun to walk through from one end to the other, just to say we did it!
This is an impressive building, so much details, so much to look at, you had a great POV, so sharp again..and I know you only went inside for this stunning picture...great job again.
Ginnie: My gay nephew was the one who wanted us to see this place, Astrid (you know those gay guys!), so we just followed him around. I'm not the shopper in my family (Donica makes up for me), but we actually had fun walking through from one end to the other...without buying one thing. It was at least a memory.
Interesting building, but the fotographer is also importent. ;-) Nice angle and harmonic colours, well done Ginnie
Ginnie: You know how to make my day, Klaus! Thank you.
wow! tu as fait une photo d'une qualité exceptionnelle. magique!
Ginnie: You know how to say the right thing, O-P, even in French.
Great work! terrific contrast in this photo! I like the composition and the symmetry! Also impressive details here. Nice shot Ginnie
Ginnie: As I always say, Arash, flattery will get you everywhere.
An excellently composed photo which emphazises the elegant, luxurious character of this very impressive building, a consumption-temple, and my eyes are 'eating and drinking' so much that I don't need buy any such thing!
Ginnie: HA! You are a soulmate, Philine, because I didn't need to buy a thing either!
What a nice place !!! I love all the details and the colours ... Even my daughter Victoria said : wouaw !!!
Ginnie: Awwww. She knows a good thing when she sees it. Did you tell her what it was called?
Australia reminds you of Convent Garden ... touchy subject over there in Oz
Excellent symmetry and colours.
Ginnie: HA! You are so right, Louis. But actually, we definitely picked up the "two minds" about that touchy subject. Some are very much Queen worshipers still, as is my nephew-in-law!
Beautiful - I saw something similar in Leeds - not this big though. I like the symetry here
Ginnie: I must say that this was HUGE, Aksel. Almost too huge for my tastes but still fun to see. Thanks.
As you know Ginnie thats another connection between us Musketeers(we hate shopping!!)
Love the building though the colours and the architecture is lovely. I like the terrazzo tiles on the floor.. Great clear detail mijn vriend
Ginnie: We Musketeers know how to stick together, Tracy, for sure! All for one and one for all.
Yes the Australian of today is infuenced by many countries but Brits have always be our mother country.great photo Ginnie
Ginnie: I guess we never forget our Mother, Vintage, whether we love her or not!
Agree totally, Ginnie. Australia really feels like England abroad.
Ginnie: I knew about the history, Chad, but it kinda surprised me when I saw it. Funny how that happens! Thanks.
I just wish we hadn't taught them to play cricket!! Something we failed to do with our American colonies by and large!
Great shot Ginnie...don't you just love Victorian buildings!!?
Ginnie: HA! I can't imagine what America would be like with yet another sport! I guess our football makes up for it, Bill!
This is a lovely rich & lusterous image of antipodean commerce Ginnie. Lovely shot!
Ginnie: I had just closed down my online dictionary, Chris, and had to open it up again for your "antipodean."
This is a huge Victorian styled arcade .. My shots of such arcades in Leicester and in Norwich are fascinating but lack the oppulance of this place. richard
Ginnie: Opulent is a good word for this place, Richard. Nice to see once but I do not need to go back.
Great shot Ginnie. It looks very much like the Melbourne arcade. I have never seen this one.
Ginnie: I would love to compare the two, Aussie, maybe some day, if ever we get back to Oz!
Just read Tracy's comment and realised I have that in common as well. I hate shopping.
Ginnie: You will make a good Musketeer, Aussie. I can just see it now. We'll definitely meet up with you in England this year. Be there or be square.
It looks a little less crowded than Covent Garden - perhaps the high prices have frightened the shoppers away! This is a beautiful structure and one time when symmetry is absolutely essential - you have captured it perfectly.
Ingrid
Ginnie: You know how to make my day, dear Ingrid! Thank you.
Fantastic work!Great processing has made a masterpiece here!Bravo!!!
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Shahab, for stopping by and commenting. That means a lot to me.
lovely shot Ginnie. I remember spending a rainy day in this place. mal
Ginnie: Aha! So then you know the British influence, Mal.
I bought a hat here.
Ginnie: HA! I hope it didn't cost you and arm and a leg, Mary.
Oh it's beautiful! I'm surprised it wasn't first a train station or something, was actually built for shops! Such nice color, a real solid place. Lovely photo.
Ginnie: I know what you mean, Ruth. So many of the magnificent shopping malls WERE first train stations! Let's hope that doesn't happen to Central Station in NYC! Thanks, Sis.
Beautiful shot Ginnie. Great colours and symmetry here!
You're right about Covent Garden similitude.
Ginnie: So glad I wasn't far off, Richard.
great angle
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Chantal.
This is an impressive building. Great symmetry and point of view.
Ginnie: It would swallow you whole, Cako.
Lovely lovely capture
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, S&S.
I love the patterned recession in the shot Ginnie, and lots of geometric shapes and all those colours. How lucky to have been here.
Ginnie: I felt very lucky, Brian, and still pinch myself! Thanks.
What's with the guys trying to butter you up ?
Ginnie: I never met one person who said anything negative about you Brits, Johnny. Actually, quite the contrary. My nephew-in-law worships your Queen!
These things are just getting bigger and bigger.
Great detail in this shot Ginnie.
Ginnie: I can't imagine building a place like that, Magnus. And on three different levels. It was mammoth! Thanks.
quite simple stunning to look at Ginnie
Ginnie: I'm glad we at least saw it, Tim. Then we were on our way to bigger and better things. (Can you tell that I'm not a shopper?)
perfectly composed Ginnie, and I love the tones and colour here
Ginnie: Thanks a million, Paul! You're a sweetheart.
nice pic
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Olivier, for stopping by and commenting.
A goldy place...
Very fine capture.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Still.
whoa Ginnie!!!
Another POSTCARD !!!!
Ginnie: You make me smile, Yinks. Thanks.
Nicely done, colors are great as the composition : Thumbs up !!
Ginnie: You're a sweetheart, Zeb! Thanks.
A grand composition Ginnie, plenty of detail for the ye to wander around. Well seen.
Ginnie: The eye definitely wanders around, Les!!
How much can you put on a photo...and it all looks so set in order...and did they let you take pictures??? Or did you manage to fool the security system?
I specially like the light and the golden warm tones as well as the almost perfect symmetry of the several elements.
Ginnie: It never one occurred to me that photos might not be allowed, Lina, so maybe I was really lucky?
This is a Ginnie Hart Trademark shot if you ask me! Marvelous. It looks so real it wants to look like a very well done painting. I could be wrong but that's just my opinion. Love it very much!
Ginnie: You sure know how to make my day, Fausto. And I mean that sincerely.
Superb colors, looks like a painting except better. Another Canon masterpiece.
Ginnie: Man! You really know how to say all the right things, Jim. Thank you.
Love this Ginnie, I actually won't mind paying for a 16x20 framed print of this to hang on my wall. Excellent capture
Ginnie: You sure know how to flatter the dickens out of me, Bandoras!
Love the picture - but this is actually 'The Strand' Arcade off Pitt Street Mall, not the 'Queen Victoria Building' as stated. Buildings like these are part of what I love about Sydney (as a local boy, born and bred). The city has such a great sense of history, thanks to British architecture such as this. Long live the Queen!!
