The Largest Family
This is a short series of impressions from Hawaii when we were there recently for my daughter's wedding on June 1.
You CANNOT think of Hawaii without thinking of orchids. The Orchid Family is the largest family of flowering plants. MILLIONS of them everywhere! [Today I'm in Atlanta.]

Very beautiful! Nice lighjt and nice colors!
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, José Angel. Aloha!
Splendid colors. How beautiful, Ginnie. You captured a beautiful photo and the framing really sets it off.
Ginnie: Your words are very kind, Sherri. I saw these orchids through a window and was "grabbed" by them.
Nice closeup and warm colors, well done Ginnie
Ginnie: As always, Klaus, THANK YOU!
Ontzettend mooie foto, de kleuren zijn fantastisch, orchids are one of my favourite flowers, I have 4 different in my windowsill, so that says it all, I would have been in awe to see them in the wild, I love the way you put the border with it, very delicate, love it.
Ginnie: Believe it or not, Astrid, I had totally forgotten about your own orchids there in your living room! You have said one bloom can last up to 9 months and I am still awed by that. It boggles my mind, actually! So yes, you would go crazy over the proliferation of orchids in Hawaii. CRAZY! Ontzettend bedankt voor jouw lieve woorden.
That is a very pretty looking plant.
Ginnie: You'd go crazy over how many there are of these in Hawaii, Kanyi! Thanks.
Nice colors and DOF,well done
Ginnie: Thank you most kindly, Zohre.
Beautiful image Ginnie.
Ginnie: Your comments are always appreciated, Aussie. Thanks.
Warm colours add a touch of old world to the composition. A beautiful photograph, Ginnie
Ginnie: They're as old as forever, Paul, for sure.
I very like the warm colours and the lighting, also the background- a fine composed close-up! The Orchid Family is the royal family of flowering plants!
Ginnie: I like how you've said that, Philine: "the royal family of flowering plants!" Thank you.
Lovely composition of this beautiful flower Ginnie. The lighting is just perfect along with the clarity.
You captured the beauty very well mijn vriend. Hope you are on the mend
Ginnie: You always say the sweetest things, Musketeer! Thank you. With the dawning of every day, I feel more and more on top of the world. This afternoon I get my stitches taken out and will talk to the doctor about how much I can start doing, without over-doing it.
Orchids are amazing flowers and this is a lovely picture Ginnie.
Ginnie: Who ever would have thought there could be so many different varieties, Bill. It really boggles the mind! Thanks.
Everyone seems to be busy photographing flowers, Ginnie. What's wrong with cats eyes (for example)?
Ginnie: HA! You're so right, Chad. You'll be glad to hear that I only do flowers once in a blue moon, and sometimes not even then.
These are beautiful & beautifully photographed!
Ginnie: Thank you, kind Wim!
Very agreeable Ginnie
Ginnie: That's a very good word, Chris. It agrees with me!
Nice colors and great details in an excelent composition.
Ginnie: Awww. Thank you kindly, Arash!
Great photo clear and crisp. My dad Grew them had about 180 plants in his back yard.
Ginnie: WOW! That's a hobby!!! Good for him. Thanks for sharing, Vintage.
Soft and beautiful.
Ginnie: Yes, Bridge. Thank You.
I never knew that Ginnie. They are very beautiful, but somehow never look quite real to me!
Ingrid
Ginnie: I know what you mean, Ingrid!! Like from another world. Thanks.
Really like the subdued colours here, Ginnie.
Not at all like the in-your-face varieties that abound in Thailand.
Ginnie: Some people actually have them in their face all the time, I'm sure, Ray. For the rest of us, these are so rare and unusual they hardly seem real! Thanks.
These are so perfect. They don't look real.
Ginnie: I know, Mary. That's what I thought every time I saw them! Thanks.
you picked a great sepia like tone
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Chantal.
I knew that I'd seen tons of varieties, but I didn't know they were the largest family. I like this warm treatment.
Ginnie: I think we would be mind-boggled, Ruth, if we had a chance to see them all in one place at one time!!! Thanks.
A beautiful blossom shot with great lighting. I like the overall tone of the image very much.
Nice detail too. This makes great subject matter for a shot!
Ginnie: When I saw it, Don, it just "grabbed" me.
Beautifully composed picture. I love the colors and tones. Nice border to match the flower, looks very professional. Very peaceful flower picture, must be the soft colors and the composition. Really a unique picture.
Ginnie: I like the word "peaceful," John. That's the feeling this gives me. Thanks for that.
How beautiful Ginnie. I love orchids. In Madagascar my father in law had a large collection of them!
Ginnie: I keep finding more and more people who love them, Richard...and even love growing them! Very cool for the relatives.
Amazing form with in the flower head ... I would say they are anatomical.
Geogia O'keefe must have used them for inspiration. This is fascinating
Ginnie: You may be right about Georgia O'Keefe, Richard. I like that thought. Thanks.
There are so many types of Orchid Ginnie and you have given us an excellent picture here. Are you competing with Bill for the best flower picture of the week by the way!
Ginnie: HA! No competition with anyone, Brian, I promise!
Lovely picture. I almost thought it was the cover of a book - I scrolled down half expecting to see some text somewhere in there
Ginnie: Awwww. I ;like that thought, Kunle.
Simpy wonderful can't say more well done.
Ginnie: You're a sweetheart, Scotia. Thank you.
I absolutely adored the colours of this one. Beautiful indeed.
Ginnie: Thanks a million, Alex. That means a lot.
Yeah... now I gotta go to Hawaii.. This shot packs a punch,I like the blurred background.
Ginnie: HA! I doesn't take much to convince you, Hamilton!
Beautiful soft tones and sharp details in this macro. Nice !
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Carsten.
Nice with the uncluttered background - and I like orchids - like the diagonal line as well...
Ginnie: So many to choose from when you're there, Aksel. It's hard to believe so many different orchids exist. Thanks.
Very nice capture here Ginnie, the color make it vintage!
Ginnie: That's what I was hoping for, Brian. Thank you!
Like vegetal birds...
Ginnie: Birds of a different color, Lina.
