The Red Baron
One of the very fun things we did in Australia was take the 20-minute bi-plane ride around Magnetic Island. I even found a YouTube short video from inside the front seat, where we sat. [Today I'm in Amsterdam but will fly back to Atlanta on Sunday.]

Held together by bits of string and a prayer, a grand little plane Ginnie, hope you enjoyed the flight.
Ginnie: Totally enjoyed it, Les! Donica is afraid of heights, so she wouldn't let the pilot do some loopy things. But still, it was a great ride!
You're braver than I. Not sure I'd have the constitution for a flight in one of these.
Ginnie: Oh, Red Pen! It was great fun. Even Donica did it, even though she's afraid of heights!
This looks like fun! I have been in small planes, but not an open air one like this.
Ginnie: It was my first open-air flight, Martin! Loads of fun. I have been in a helicopter twice and in a small pontoon plane, but this was the cat's meow!
beautiful plane. great clear shot.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Alicia, for stopping by and commenting.
Amazing, i love old airplanes. Nice toning and good sharpness.
Ginnie: It was so fun, Klaus. It kinda fit my 62 years!
I love the way the pic looks. Did you desaturate the image?
Ginnie: Yes, Kanyi. I had to give it a vintage look! It's a sepia image through PS's Multiply layer.
This sounds like real fun, a great sharp well composed shot of an unique plane, wow you are a little dare devil when it comes to heights and speed, heights I knew...
surprisingly Donica was with you, she is afraid of heights...
Ginnie: Guilty as charged, Astrid. A little dare-devil, that's me! Donica was hanging on for dear life, but I was proud of her for going. The pilot asked if we'd like some dare-devil moves but she said NO. Too bad. I bet that would have been fun.
This must have been so much fun.. I would have done that Ginnie honest.
Come fly with me, lets fly lets fly away, springs to mind Crystal clear shot mijn vreind Have a great weekend
Ginnie: I know you would have done this in a flash, Tracy. So would have Astrid. The 3 Musketeers in the front seat (built for 2). I can see it now!
This looks like fun. I'd have gone for it without a second thought. As usual a quality production Ginnie, clear, sharp and well controlled.
Ginnie: You would have had a blast, Ron.
Watched the video and can see why you enjoyed it. Were you able to take any pictures? This one is beautifully sharp by the way.
Ginnie: The only pictures I took were before and after, Bill, while on the little boat riding to the pontoon plane. The cockpit is so small and cramped and the windshield too high for photos. And the wind is too strong for photos off to the side. So I was content to just watch and enjoy the experience. Thanks.
I bet you enjoyed that experience Ginnie!
Ginnie: More than you know, Chris.
This looks like something out of World War II - I don't think I would have dared get in as I hate flying, but I'm sure you must have enjoyed it.
Ingrid
Ginnie: I had to give it that vintage look, Ingrid! Kinda befitting my 62 years!
OMG Ginnie, you know my passion for planes. This is a fantastic shot. You must have had a great time flying in this bi-plane!
Ginnie: I'll never forget it, Richard. I'm at that age when I need to try everything once, just to say I did it.
Imagining how much fun it would have been flying in a "convertible" aircraft like this
Ginnie: I hope you can imagine it well, Navin, because it was wonderful!
Yay! That would be fun!
Tell me you stood on the lower wing, holding that cable, as the plane chugged along...doesn't matter if its not completely true, but fits the image I am getting of you and your Mouseketeers, Ginnie.
Ginnie: Now THAT would have been a blast, Ray. I would have done it if I had been allowed!!! I love stuff like that.
I like the colour of this aircraft, Ginnie. I think it very brave of you to go up in that thing! Did you attempt some wing walking?
Ginnie: I would have LOVED to wing-walk, Chad. I love heights and I am such a dare-devil.
Oh yeh....great picture, Ginnie [grin]
Ginnie:
the shadow of the wing makes it look like it goes all the way down
Ginnie: So true, Chantal!
A beautiful machine! Was it an actually old one?
Ginnie: To tell you the truth, Wim, I don't know. I wish I had asked!!!
Now that must have been an experience, Ginnie. What did the island look like from above?
Ginnie: It looked just like that YouTube video, Kathryn, only better, since I saw it with my own two eyes.
Now I'm really envious, splendid craft to fly in Ginnie
Ginnie: I wish for you this chance once in your life, Chris!
Such a round-about-flight may have been an adventure, I can imagine that because I took in former days sometimes part in such an event, it was very exciting and impressive. (But the name "The Red Baron" and the story of the 'war hero' Manfred von Richthofen doesn't sound, sorry, in many German ears so positive)
Ginnie: I'm sure this Red Baron brings up not so positive memories for some, Philine, but for Magnetic Island, it brings lots of smiles.
Fantastic shot Ginnie, I don't think you could have got me up in that.
Ginnie: I would have held your hand, Aussie, and you would have been just fine. If Donica can do it, so can you.
Hope you had your WW2 leather flying helmet on and goggles ... after all you have to play the part and get away from being that modern 'city gal' Ginnie. richard
Ginnie: Truer words were never spoken, Richard!
Wow, you are a brave person to go up in that plane. Reminds me of an Indiana Jones movie. I can imagine the view was spectacular. Very interesting shot of this plane.
Ginnie: Indiana Jones, you're right, John! I knew it reminded me of someone!
Hey Ginnie ..how are you doing ..You maust have had a swell time ..Nice shot..
Ginnie: I've missed you, Shakara! I'm doing great. Thanks. How are YOU!?
A copper airplane?? What a fantastic capture. The tone and detail are marvelous!
Ginnie: Actually, Karima, it really was red but I muted it for a nostalgic, vintage look. Thanks for stopping by and commenting@
Very brave, Ginnie. I would have settled for the photo which btw is wonderful.
Ginnie: HA! I didn't feel brave at all, Sherri. Just wildly excited.
Wonderful, wonderful! So precise and clear, awesome. The bronze is gorgeous. I feel that I could just hop in and fly away! And HOW did you get D to go up in this??????
Ginnie: Donica was the one who thought up the whole thing, Ruth. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT! She who is afraid of heights! The plane really was red but I muted it for a nostalgic, vintage look. You would have loved it.
Karima was correct, it's more copper than bronze.
Ginnie: And in real life, more red than copper.
I love old machines and here we have a great one!
Ginnie: This fits my age of 62, Arash.
Hey Ginnie,
I hope you do not fly back with this cute plane? ( Yes i am back form not beig away, but my internet was off on where? I don't know... Hve a great weekend and a safe journey back to Atlanta!! JoAnn
Ginnie: I will NOT fly back to Atlanta on this plane, JoAnn, I promise. But it was very fun for Magnetic Island! Glad to see you back.
I watched the video Ginnie, not for me I am afraid, but good picture though.
Ginnie: Come on, Brian. Where's your spunk!!
Crisp and Clear Granny....
Ginnie: Awww. Thank you, my dear. Good to see you again!
An old king of the sky...
Ginnie: Yes, indeed, Still!
Looks like it comes with free air conditioning. Very sharp well exposed image great framing. Reminds me of an Indiana Jones movie plane. well done.
Ginnie: HA! Free air conditioning, indeed, Scotia. It IS like just out of Indiana Jones! Thanks.
You actually rode in one of these things?
I'd be terrified..but love the old airplane image.
Ginnie: Yes, Marcie, we DID ride in this. It was super fun. We loved it.
This is a wonderful shot. A great plane and very nice light.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Carsten!
Don't tell me you flown in this? Details looks pretty but... well, not solid Boeing 737 I got used to... Nevertheless great shot.
Ginnie: Yes, Monika, we DID fly in this and it was a blast. It's funny but it never once occurred to me it might not be safe!
Ginnie! You don't stop!!!Another postcard, you should consider editorial and get goood money for your great work...
Anyhoo so. You flew in that! ?!? You have guts but then you know what they say... No guts, no glory... so
Ginnie: I CAN'T stop, Yinks. When I do, I'll be dead.
Now that looks like fun
Ginnie: It was, Vintage!
absolutely a beautiful shot!!!
Ginnie: You're a sweetheart, Olivier. Thank you kindly.
They're amazing little planes aren't they.
What's special about Magnetic Island, or have I missed that picture? Is it magnetic?
Ginnie: The island was where we spent our last week in Australia, Ellie...where I saw the koala and rock wallabies...and where I took this plane ride.
Very Nice shot , Great details & good composition i like it.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Saeed!
You are very, very brave!
And I just love this bi-planes. It must have been so great to fly in one of this...
Ginnie: It's funny, Lina, because it never once entered my mind that there was anything dangerous about this plane or ride. I had the time of my life.
beautiful....presume uve dried out the shot a bit, lovely chocolate surface on the plane...
Ginnie: I actually did a B&W/sepia conversion through the PS Multiply layer, which retains just a smidgen of color, Sam. In real life, it really IS red!
Love the colours here - your treatment has this "old", good feeling. That red/brown/bronze colour is lovely
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Aksel. I loved the vintage look, even though it was truly a red plane!
That must have been fun!! Did you take any pictures while up in the air, Ginnie?
Ginnie: No, Kay....not while in the air. The dashboard was too high and if i pointed to the right or left, the wind took the camera away! Even with IS, it would have been pretty shaky! BUT I WANTED TO!
Very clear shot! You have courage Ginnie!
Ginnie: HA! I'm just an old dare-devil at heart, Fausto.
