The Springing of Zutphen
This was back in March, early spring, in Zutphen, Holland, same day as yesterday's post.
This just happens to be my kind of sky over the Grote Gracht (Great Canal)! (I'm a redhead and can't take too much sun.) [Today I'm in Atlanta.]

Lovely shot, Ginnie. Such a clean looking area, love the landscape and the architecture. Beautiful job composing this image.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, John. It felt like a magical place that morning.
Your image is some kind of "perfect", Ginnie.
Really like the palette of brilliant greys that dominate but don't overpower this work. Love the grasses that anchor this image at the bottom left.
Ginnie: And your "flattery" is some kind of wonderful, Ray! You always make my day. Thank you.
Postcard perfect, Ginnie. I love this picture. And I'd love to live in a house overlooking this lake. I'm sure the view changes with every season. Well done as always
Ginnie: I just found out from Wim that this is their Grote Gracht" (Great Canal), Kay, but it looks like a small Michigan lake to me. I could have a nice little cottage house there, for sure! Thanks, dear friend.
Very pretty. I was expecting it to be located in Maine. It looks very similar. I particularly like the grass in the lower corner.
Ginnie: Or, as I told Kay, in Michigan! It does look like one of our small lakes, Sherri, even though it's a big canal. Thanks.
Eonderful shot. I love the tones here. also I like the tree on top left. well done!
Ginnie: It felt like I was standing on the shore of a lake, Arash. That was the feeling I had and it really WAS wonderful.
very nice shot , i like the colors & soft reflection in this shot.
Ginnie: You're a sweetheart, Saeed. Thank you kindly.
Wow a dark day but great colours that sky looks menacing.
Ginnie: I have always loved menacing skies, Vintage. Not sure where that comes from but it goes all the way back to my childhood. Thank you.
This is the "Grote Gracht" at Zutphen which used to be part of the town's defense works. The low wall (parapet) on the right (under the tree) was also part of that.
Ginnie: I have just added the "Grote Gracht" to my text above, Wim. Thanks for that important detail. This actually reminds me of our small lakes in Michigan, which evokes so much feeling and nostalgia for me right now.
Love the stormy atmosphere Ginnie. Was there any lightening I can just imagine a flash breaking through??
Love the lighting and the colours too. Nice one
Ginnie: No lightning, Tracy, that I recall. In fact, come to think of it, I hardly ever see lightning in Holland. Hmmm. Thanks, mijn vriend.
It is indeed a lovely dramatic sky Ginnie
Ginnie: Thank you, Chris. I often say I much prefer photographing skies like this than the blue, sunny ones. I know, I'm very weird.
Such lovely willows,(Looks like willow trees) I do think that all water should have them near by. I also like the none uniformal houses that you says that it is Holland. Nice shot. I think it must have rained shortly after
Ginnie: I'm sure they ARE willow trees, Mick--the kind we have in Michigan. They're one of my favorite trees, so no wonder I was attracted to this scene! Thanks. It did rain off and on all day, yes!
You feel you want to bottle light like this to carry round with you! I can't take the sun even though I'm dark (well I used to be!!)
Ginnie: You're right, Bill, about bottling this kind of light. It's magical. I quite prefer these menacing, lowering skies to the sunny, blue ones, as I just told Chris. But I'm weird, so it figures.
a wonderfully balanced composition- "my kind of sky" and gracht too, because of the beautiful soft reflections- it could also be autumn while looking at the willows and their brown leaves... I remember to have walked along this gracht and the walls, too.
Ginnie: Then you know exactly what this feels like, Philine! A handful of us have been there! I like that.
a typical threathening cloud for Holland.
Ginnie: Yes, Chantal, you're right! And I love it.
Fantastic shot Ginnie. Love that sky.
Ginnie: Thanks, Aussie. The sky was what made the image for me.
Its lovely to see somewhere like this clean and tidy Ginnie; the more i look at this country the more rubbish I see everywhere!!! Fine image, Chris
Ginnie: I know what you mean, Chris! Some places definitely look better than others! Thanks.
This is a wonderful image, Ginnie. Very well presented too. Are you fiery as redheads are said to be?
Ginnie: HA! I'll leave that question for Astrid to answer, Chad!
Hi, I love the fact that you have left the clouds in. Often I hear people ask where is the blue sky? I think the clouds add another dimension and make the other objects pop out. Thanks for sharing.
Ginnie: Thanks a million, Brian, for stoppinng by and commenting. Since we were just in Australia recently, you put a smile on my face.
Great sky, it never bores me, we were lucky that day with the weather, we saw a lot of rain....but never were outside when it rained..
Indeed postcard quality, the little reed on the left does it voor me, meer dan je weet.
Ginnie: The skies sure did threaten us all day long, Astrid, you're right! But when we were outside, the rain stopped. We're the Dream Team, must be!
The dark sky, and therefore dark water, really highlight the lovely colours in the trees Ginnie. Looks a nice place to be.
Ginnie: It was totally charming, Brian! Thank you.
Beautiful moody shot Ginnie. I really like the colours contrast between the willow trees and the menacing sky!
Ginnie: Maybe that's why I like lowering skies so much, Richard! They sure make everything else look so lovely. Thank you.
Oh, this is so wonderful. It's got that fantastic mixed lighting with the storm threatening and yet that eerie bright light nevertheless. I also love those grasses on the left.
Ginnie: You like what I like, Karima.
Nice mood and i like the framing.
Ginnie: Thank you, kind sir.
I know....it's great. Heavy grey sky and the sunlight... it's amazing. This could easily be a boring shot but with that light and your good composition it becomes a fine landscape
Ginnie: You know how to make my day, Aksel. Thank you.
Lovely looking place Ginnie, and a lovely picture too. The willows look as if they're just about to burst into leaf, aren't they lovely and bright
Ginnie: I love willows, Ellie...one of my favorite trees in the world! Thanks.
Looks a nice place to live Ginnie, the framing of the lake with the branches and the reeds in the foreground works well.
Ginnie: It was really breath-taking, Les. Thanks.
There's nothing better then the ochre of willows and a grey stormy sky. Beautiful!
Ginnie: That's what I thought, Ruth.
Another photo with that spectacular sky. This is a great contrast to the beautiful trees at the watersides.
Ginnie: You're a sweetheart, Carsten. Thank you.
I usually don't like greying skies but you have made me a fan by saturating the rest of the image. Great idea........Bravo!
Ginnie: You have made my day, Jim. I'm just sorry I'm late on replying.
Another master composition... the elements on the left( first plan) worked so well...they put us on theshore along with you...
Ginnie: I sometimes don't know why I do things the way I do, Lina, but I think you just explained it to me.
amazing capture, well done
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Viktor, for stopping by and commenting.
I jus love this shot.
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, CISI! That means a lot.
